Conceptual Literature

            Education is the discipline that concerns the methods of teaching and learning in schools or school-like environments. It also opposes the informal means of socialization (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2018). Education can now be considered as the stepping stone for someone’s success. People nowadays think that educated person is much better than those who are not. In terms of employability, being educated is tantamount to providing fish net to the fishermen. Hence, education equips a student and get them ready for the job. For a person to be called a student, he must be enrolled.

Based from Cambridge Dictionary (2018), enrollment is an  act of putting someone else onto the official list of members of a group, course, or college. Additionally, enrollment was explained as an act or process of enrolling or state of being enrolled (Dictionary.com, 2018). The researchers stated that enrollment is the process done to be officially listed in the student’s masterlist.

            According to Technopedia (2018), “A database management system (DBMS) is a software package designed to define, manipulate, retrieve and manage data in a database. A DBMS generally manipulates the data itself, the data format, field names, record structure and file structure. It also defines rules to validate and manipulate this data. A DBMS relieves users of framing programs for data maintenance. Fourth-generation query languages, such as SQL, are used along with the DBMS package to interact with a database.” Vangie Beal (Webopedia, 2018) added that DBMS is a collection of programs which allows the users to store, modify and extract information from a database. This study aims to construct an online enrollment and admission form which will be utilized by the enrollees online. The school administrator will then harvest the information from the responses real-time.

            Online enrollment system is a system that allows the students to register through the internet, eliminating or reducing problems of long queues. It is essential in schools because it makes enrollment process easier and paperless.

Local Studies

            The web-based enrollment system for Veritas Parochial School (VPS) is a new style of enrollment that offers its students new option of enrolling at VPS. This system can be used by applying the following steps. By logging on to VPS website, one can register and enroll subjects for a school year. With these, all the students are required to fill out certain forms that do not take more than a few minutes to accomplish. The system stores its records in the school database for future references. Confirmation of the transaction made by the students need to be verified, the payment of tuition fees must be made in the schools registrar. The students may also browse the web site of VPS and he can check his current account. The students can also refer to the list of the school current tuition fee rates (Pascual & Riceo, 2008).

            Conde (2007) explains that having an online enrollment system can be the solution to lessen the laborious process which are the manual process of enrollment and manual handling of information and reports of the students The proponents of their study, entitled “Network-bases Enrollment System of Paete National High School,” developed a network based system enrollment system to the said school to solve the huge amount of task.

            Saayo et.al (2008) developed the Network-based automated Enrollment and grading system for Morong National High School so that the students from MNHS would not spend most of their time during enrollment period, such as paying their tuition fees and processing the school requirements. 

From the work entitled “Network-based student Permanent Record keeping and Enrollment System of Balian National High School,” Valina et.al (2009) said that the system was made to lessen the time and effort exerted by both student and school employees. It is also made to give accurate reports and keep records of every student and for easy and fast way of enrollment. 

Synthesis

            Present study focused on the enrollment of the students through online enrollment system. The system also asks for the students or applicant’s personal information. Meanwhile, the former study mainly focuses on the enrollment of the subjects that the applicant will take. Furthermore, former study includes the list of the school tuition fee rates which is not included in the present study. Both study are similar in a way that they use online application forms.

Present and former studies focused on finding solutions by reducing the laborious process of manual system. Hence, it is done by using online enrollment systems. Moreover, these studies aim to store and access information. They differ in a way that the present study will be used in DJAPMNHS while former study is used in Paete National High School.

            Enrollment process will be more efficient and accurate using these kind of enrollment systems. Former study vary because of the inclusion of grading systems and the process of paying tuition fees.

Latter and former study both focused on the aim of implementing an online enrollment systems to their preferred schools. Both studies aimed to have an easier way of enrollment which can be a big help for both the administrators and students. On the other hand, these studies differ in a way that the present study aimed to construct an online enrollment form for DJAPMNHS using Google Forms.

            The present study is related to the study of Valina et.al (2009) because both studies said that the system was made to lessen the time and effort expended by the students and employees during enrollment periods. It also gives more accurate reports of the kept records of the students and for more convenient enrollment. On the other hand, some aspects of the studies were different since the former study was made for Balian National High School while present study is for Dr. Juan A. Pastor Memorial National High School.

Conceptual Framework

            This study aims to speed up the process of enrollment of the students through an online site. The paradigm identifies the input variables which includes the assessment of the needs of the community for a more efficient enrollment system and the suitable characteristics of the needed enrollment system.

The process variables include brainstorming and making the model undergoing the trial to test the system.

The output variable is the senior high school online enrollment system of DJAPMNHS using Google forms.

Figure 1 shows the research paradigm which illustrates the relationship between the data that goes in (input) – both dependent and independent variables; the methods (process) for data gathering and treatment; and the outcome (output) which was based on the findings from the input and process.

Definition of Terms

           

            Tedious. This refers to being tiresome because of length or tiredness. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2019). In this study, this word is used as a description for those of the applicants, staffs and enrollees during the period of enrollment.

            Database. This refers to a collection of pieces of information that is organized and used on a computer. (Merriam- Webster Dictionary, 2019). In this study, this refers to the type of output that was produced by the researchers.

            Enrollment. This refers to the entering of someone as a member or participant in something. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2019). In this study, this refers to the problem that the researchers wanted to solve.

Software. This refers to the program that run on a computer and perform certain functions. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2019). In this study, this refers is the material used in the project-making.

            Facilities. This refers to something that is built for a specific purpose. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2019). In this study, this refers to the system that will benefit on the project or output.

            Internet. This refers to an electronic communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer facilities around the world. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2019). In this study, this word is used as the medium to access the Online Enrollment System of the school.

            Google Forms. Is a webpage app used to create forms for data collection purposes. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2019). In this study, this was used by the researchers in project-making.

            Spreadsheet. This refers to the computer programs that calculates numbers and organizes information in columns and rows. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2019). In this study, this refers to where the data and information of the enrollees will be organized.
